5 Tips for making your green smoothie taste less green.
Making your green smoothie taste LESS green!
I love a green smoothie and I think it is one of the best ways to add more greens to your daily routine in such an easy way. Smoothies are tremendous vehicles for nutritional density and can be easily integrated into any lifestyle routine. However, I get that it can be a struggle when it just tastes TOO green. My favorite greens to add include spinach, kale, or romaine.
Here are some ways I’ve learned how to make drinking your greens much more enjoyable:
1.) Add organic raw honey! This sweetens the smoothie and adds all the great benefits of honey at the same time — remember, a little bit goes a long way.
2.) Use pineapple or mango ALWAYS! These are game changers when it comes to green smoothies — they mask the bitterness that greens can bring! I will typically always add pineapple or mango to my smoothies or juices, regardless of the combinations, simply because of how well it impacts the flavor.
3.) Always add banana. Bananas improve the texture by making the smoothie so smooth and creamy and help to mute the green flavor as well. I typically add 1/2 frozen banana!
4.) This is perhaps my favorite — add avocado! Avocado is a healthy fat and fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K), abundantly
found in greens, will absorb better within the body when fat is consumed with them. Not only does avocado provide this assistance in absorption, it also improves the smoothies texture significantly.
5.) Blend with coconut water! I will typically use water as my liquid for green smoothies but coconut water does wonders for the greens! Such a great additive, high in potassium and a wonderful source of hydration. My favorite brand of coconut water is Harmless Harvest.
